There was an amazing sense of nostalgia as I had dinner in this relatively new restaurant on the main street in Loughrea. The building was originally a private house owned by the O’Loughlin family and on many, many, nights in the early seventies I practised all my best moves and chords as we played hits by people like Rory Gallagher, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and many more in what we thought was the best rock band on the planet. The band had the rather unusual name of Skab Law. How the neighbours put up with the deafening levels of guitars and drums is a credit to their tolerance.

Making dents in ignorance

GALWAY WILL be the last date on dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip’s upcoming tour but despite their gruelling schedule, the band will deliver nothing less than one hell of a great night. After all Galway is a city for which they genuinely have affection.

Finbar Hoban presents... at Bar Ritz last Saturday week was a huge success with Kneel Before Zod plus support from local bands Hotrock and Struck. The night got under way with upcoming young band Struck at 8.30pm followed by the extremely talented Hotrock at 9.30pm. There were lots of give-aways on the night before the main event which saw Kneel Before Zod take to the stage at 11pm and amaze the crowd by playing cover versions from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, Thin Lizzy, and a blistering cover version of Black Sabbaths “War Pigs” which thrilled the massive crowd.
